There was a time when parents who wanted an educational present for their children used to buy a typewriter, a book or a dictionary. Convinced that computers are the key to success, parents are insisting that children should be taught to use them in school as early as possible. They tend to fear that their children will be unemployable if they haven’t mastered computer technology. The use of computers in school becoming more and more widespread.

Useful expressions:
 Put the following sentences into the right position in the following table, according to their functions:.
1, mention the request/ invitation - It’s nice to know that you are going to have a party next weekend.

2, accept - Well, I'll help you but can you come a little later ?
- Certainly, I will come.
- Of course, I am always ready to help you prepare for the coming picnic
- I’ll be waiting for you at the schoolgate next Sunday
3, refuse -- I’m afraid that I am busy on that day.
- I do want to help you but I'm afraid I can't
-Unfortunately, I'm not able to join the picnic with your family because I am having an important test then.

II. WRITING A PARAGRAPH ABOUT THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF MASS MEDIA

Exercise 1: Writing task - type 1: Write a passage , using the given word prompts

Television:
Television has become more ane more popular because of its advantages. First, it helps us learn more about the world. We can stay at home and see what is happening at other places. Second, it can make things momorable because television presents information in an interesting and effective way. Besides, television is a means of entertainment. Programmes on TV are suitable for different kinds of viewers. Students can watch quiz shows to check and enlarge their knowledge. Old people can watch “ Cai Luong” for entertainment……. However, television also has some disadvantages. First , it may make people passive . It takes time away such activities as playing sports. In addition, watching Tv to much is harmful to our eyes. Finally, the advertisements on TV may make people buy thing s they do not really need.
Internet
No one can deny the advantages if the internet. First, it is a fast and convenient way to get information. With just a few clicks , we can receive almost any kind of information we need. The latest news is always available on the internet. Second, it is a wonderful source of entertainment. It helps us to interact with other computers and with other people in the world. It allows us to chat or send and receive emails . Moreover, the internet can be used as a means of education which helps us learn more about the world . However, the internet has some disadvantages. First, it may be time-consuming and costly, which badly affects students’ study. Second, bad websites may do harm to the users, especially children.
Radio

First, radio is suitable to provide people with programs about music and news. We can listen to the radio while doing something else. Second, radio can encourage listeners’ imagination to develop because when listening to the radio, we have to imagine the actual images to fit the spoken words. Howeevr, radiom has some disadvantages. First, it presents information and entertainment orally. Therefore , it is difficult to understand the content of the news and the stories.. Second, many people often listen to radio programmes in their car , which may interfere with their driving and cause accidents.

It is also a popular and cheap kind of entertainment with which we can relax ourselves after a hard- working day.
Moreover, television presents information visually and orally , so programs on television are often interesting and make things memorable. In addition, television can help develop production because the advertisements on TV often increase the popularity of new products and encourage people to buy them.
Disadvantages:
……………..First, watching TV too much may affect our health and make people passive
Second, bad and violent programs may beconme bad lessons for children
Third, television may interfere with family communication because it lessens family members’ talking time.
Cell phones:
Advantages:
……………..First. a cell phone is a useful way to keep in touch with other people because it can help us make phone calls and send messagesalmost everywhere.
Next, a cell phone can be used as a convenient sour
